Thankful Thursday: November 25, 2010

"We need to be more grateful. It's one of the marks of strong character, to have a feeling of thanksgiving and gratitude for blessings that are ours. We need more of that spirit in our homes, in our daily associations, in church, everywhere. It's so easy to cultivate the spirit of appreciation."

~Ezra Taft Benson

This is one of my most favorite weeks of the entire year.
The week of Thanksgiving
Riding on the coattails of fall and providing a preview of winter,
(and coordinating nicely with my mother's birthday)
Thanksgiving stands as the flag-bearer for a year-in-review.

Thanksgiving offers us,
individually
and as families gathered in love and traditional delicious eats
the opportunity to reflect & recognize
our many, many blessings.

Every week I am grateful for the time I get to spend on my Thankful Thursday posts--
it offers an energy of spirit that tends to lighten my load, calm my worries, & encourage happiness.

Gratitude changes the way we feel about the life buzzing around us.
And one week per year--our communities are a-buzz with Thankful Thoughts.
Isn't it fabulous?

I am thankful for many things today, including:

-a furnace that keeps the downstairs at a steady temp & the upstairs even warmer
-the sweet Thanksgiving card we received in the mail yesterday from my boys' great-grandmother
-all things pepperminty (check my fam blog for my recent fun w/peppermint extract)
-safe travels: here, there, everywhere
-zippers. really, think about it :)
-thoughtful friends that invited us over for Turkey dinner this afternoon
-memories of Thanksgivings past (and my awesome brother who blogged about them)
-flannel pj bottoms
-clean, crisp bedsheets

-our worldly possessions that make life more easy, efficient, and fun
-the service men & women who serve our nation with strength & consistency
-the experiences in my life that have taught me who I am
-dear friends...I have so many favorites & I love them all!
-my brothers--they encourage, lift, & love me!
-my Mom, who is consistently showing me the positive perspective
-my Dad, who is ever-reliable with advice & wisdom
-my in-laws--their support & love makes all the difference
-my handsome Mr. H...I'm in love!
-my handsome babies; this mothering adventure is the best thing I've ever done

and above all

-God our Father & His Son, from whom we receive everything worth thanking

"Gratitude is a Spirit‑filled principle. It opens our minds to a universe permeated with the richness of a living God. Through it, we become spiritually aware of the wonder of the smallest things, which gladden our hearts with their messages of God's love. This grateful awareness heightens our sensitivity to divine direction. When we communicate gratitude, we can be filled with the Spirit and connected to those around us and the Lord. Gratitude inspires happiness and carries divine influence."

~Bonnie D. Parkin

May you & yours enjoy a safe and beautiful Thanksgiving holiday.

How has gratitude inspired happiness in your life this week?

I am thankful for my family near and far (and thankful for their blogs which gives us the opportunity to peek in to their daily lives and make us feel as if we haven't seen each other in as long as it's been! PS: We'll be in Chicago in April)

And yes, I suppose I am grateful for zippers....especially since our days are dipping in to the 30's. And gloves, yes, definitely gloves.

Today, I am grateful to be spending it with my family here. And thankful for family recipes handed down for the younger generation to start making.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Lots of hugs from The Crew!

I think I caught your cold! I am grateful for rain on my skylights...it is warm enough here that we have our bedroom window open to hear it tonight as a lullaby!
I am thankful for crockpots with which half our dinner was prepared,
for my two men here who wanted things simple today...and for much much more. Thanksgiving memories...
and realizing that the most important part is the thanks, and just knowing how blessed we really are. Thankful to my family, everywhere. And Puffs Plus. g'nite.
