Thankful Thursday: May 6, 2010

Happy Seis de Mayo, people!

Did you indulge in a taco, burrito, fajita, or enchilada yesterday?

Did you sing a little mariachi number in your kitchen as you put together your Mexican-themed snack?

Did you quiz your loved ones with Cinco de Mayo trivia?

Well...I did, and the Spanish-speakin'/lovin' part of my soul was satisfied.

And I have many, many things to be grateful for on this fine Thursday--such as:

the fabulous meetings at Church this weekend (Stake Conference),
a group date night, afternoon naps, generous offerings of maternity threads,
and last but hardly least--the safety of our families and friends in left in the wake of the Nashville Flood of 2010 (that the news media seems to have, for the most part, ignored?)

With all of those things swimming around my thankful heart today,
I wanted to shift my focus to one person in everyone's life
who deserves a mountain and half of Thanks on this Thankful Thursday.

Do you know who it is?

For me, it is the person who:

gave me my first kiss
gave late nights, early mornings and everything in between
taught me how to read
taught me how to love
offered open arms for hugs
offered whispered prayers on my behalf
believes in the lemonade side of things
believes in the sweeter side of me

And this week/weekend we honor this person in our lives.
Cards, jewelry, flowers, & special meals are likely all appreciated...
but what should we offer most of all?

Our purest Thanks.

"There is no one perfect way to be a good mother. Each situation is unique. Each mother has different challenges, different skills and abilities, and certainly different children. The choice is different and unique for each mother and each family. Many are able to be “full-time moms,” at least during the most formative years of their children’s lives, and many others would like to be. Some may have to work part-or full-time; some may work at home; some may divide their lives into periods of home and family and work. What matters is that a mother loves her children deeply and, in keeping with the devotion she has for God and her husband, prioritizes them above all else."
~M. Russell Ballard

Thanks, Mom for giving your best...
for loving us deeply.
